Overview

9 Month Fixed-Term Contract

The Editorial Content Manager will work closely with the Senior Content Editorial Manager (SCE Manager) and other members of the Content Editorial Team to develop, commission, review, publish, design, curate , and occasionally write, content relevant to RSSB and its associated offerings, schemes, and partnerships. The role involves working across diverse and complex content topics in various formats, applying two of our three key marketing principles in particular: ‘less is more’ and ‘hyper-accessible content’. This plays a key role in taking our content offerings to the next level.

As a maternity leave cover, most of your editorial work will be focused on the core ‘business as usual’ outputs of the business where formats, audiences, and authors are already established. These are: lengthy technical reports, shorter ‘Research in Brief’ documents, track records, and easy requests about webpage copy. However, we are keen to employ a professional content editor who is skilled in all areas of the editing task so that both you and us can gain the most from the role. The role requirements are therefore defined very broadly although main responsibilities are more tightly defined. After an introductory period you may do other work to meet our other needs as they fit with your skillset and experience.

The RSSB website is currently undergoing a comprehensive refresh and new features to improve usability for our members are being added. This makes it an exciting time to be part of the Content Team. However, it also intensifies the need to maintain the excellence of our editorial work on our core products.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for delivering editorial and production guidance and support to those developing content for RSSB. This will include guiding and influencing the development of content. We are particularly keen that all members of the Content Team ensure appropriate structure, editing, formatting and design are applied. This requires working effectively with subject matter experts, senior stakeholders, and partners to deliver clear, relevant information. Specific responsibilities include;

  • Champion the adoption of customer-centric language in the editing of materials for external use, encouraging and mentoring technical authors to consider end-users in their content.
  • Project manage content production and dissemination to deliver content within agreed deadlines and on budget.
  • Conceptualise, plan, and deliver inspiring and engaging content from across the business in suitably identified formats to ensure the information is accessible and consumable.
  • Provide editorial support in the form of structural editing, copy editing, proofreading, formatting, and occasionally writing long-form content, so that the quality of outputs is in line with RSSB standards.
  • Manage the production and distribution of content against changes in the industry and find better solutions for existing offerings through identifying new trends in content consumption.
  • Develop an overall perspective on business requirements and priorities, wider implications and long-term impact, to identify how content can help solve challenges.

Qualifications

  • Experience of applying writing and editing skills in a similar role, with the ability to understand the purpose and usage of content based on user needs.
  • A thorough understanding of publication processes, including commissioning, reviewing and approving a variety of content types.
  • Experience of improving content through various levels of editing, including:
    • comprehensive editing: review content (for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate language) and form (for structure, organisation, visual design, and usability)
    • copyediting: ensuring that the document is correct (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) and stylistically consistent
    • proofreading: ability to identify text and formatting errors in the final document and apply final corrections pre-publication.
  • The ability to write engaging copy.
  • Experience of managing multiple projects
  • Experience in content and knowledge curation with the ability to work on technically complex information.
  • Communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas through methods appropriate to the audience.
  • Adapt and respond effectively when embracing new opportunities, change and in navigating uncertainty.
  • Actively contribute as part of a team and work towards achieving team goals and outcomes.
  • Take responsibility and demonstrate accountability in completing tasks and achieving objectives, actively seeking to resolve problems and identify opportunities.
  • Committed to customer service and placing customer satisfaction at the heart of our success to ensure we deliver against our shared goals.
  • Can work collaboratively within an evolving industry, gaining stakeholder confidence through understanding their goals and motivations and demonstrating credibility as an expert.
  • Make timely informed decisions taking account of the benefits and constraints involved.
